Term Three 2009

Room 1:  How quickly the time has flown since all the super children in Room One began their schooling days! It has been a special Term in welcoming our newcomers... Isabella, Sophie, Emelia, Tom and Rosa.

A huge thank you to all the parents for your valued support, not only during this term but throughout the year. The pictures say it all.. THANK YOU. Show Day....Athletics Day... the fantastic Gala....farewell to Sister Jessica.. Road Safety with Constable Helen Thurston...'"sneaky driveways"... "one foot forward, one foot back, look both ways..." learning to be Team Players, using our 'Good Hands for helping, caring, building...'Advent/ Christmas activities, Target Games... and our fun- filled School Picnic Day.

To all the wonderful Room One children, we give thanks for the past year. For the things we have learnt, for the fun we have had, for the skills we have gained, for the help we have had, and for the friends we have made.

Room 2:  Room 2 have enjoyed another busy, fun and quite creative term!

Our School Gala provided us with a purpose to create homemade Christmas Tree decorations from salt dough. We enjoyed planning and designing our decorations and then painting and decorating them. We are very proud of our achievements in helping to raise money.

Then our Health unit 'Stepping Out' resulted in Constable Helen from the Police teaching us how to keep safe on roadside and when travelling in cars and buses. We used our new skills to catch the public bus into the city centre, and then walk safely down to the Art Gallery. There, our creative talents were needed again to draw and paint a native bird - we loved to see our successful artwork!

We have been learning about how to be 'Team Player' this term and we realised how you can achieve more with the help of others and also how important it is to share our own ideas with others too. Finally, we are very thankful for all the wonderful Parent Help we have received during the year, in and out of the classroom.

We wish you all a very Happy and Safe Christmas Holiday!

Room 3:

Athletics: All the Room 3 children participated enthusiastically in the school athletics day and put into practice all the skills they had learned in PE during the term.

Metlife/Christmas cards: We were happy to share Christmas cards and carols with the residents of the Merivale Metlife Care retirement home. The children enjoyed talking with the residents about Christmases past and present.

School Picnic: We had a very enjoyable school picnic at Abberley Park. The children had been learning target games in PE and had great fun playing them at the picnic.

3D: During the term in maths our Geometry topic focussed on the properties of 3 dimensional shapes. We made interesting 3D Christmas decorations. We also learned about drawing 3D shapes in Art and produced some fantastic artwork.

Gala: Room 3 contributed to the success of the school gala by making jelly to sell with ice-cream as well as fizzy sherbet. In writing the children learned about advertising and then used their ICT skills to design and produce some eye-catching advertising posters.

Puppet Show: At the end of each term the children look forward to presenting plays as part of their reading programme. This term some groups made stick puppets and used them to tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Room 4: Thank you to our teachers Mrs Foote, Mrs Sjoberg and Mrs Tothill for another great term of learning and enjoyment.

Athletics Sports: Our annual athletics sports was held at New Brighton Club recently and everybody excelled on both track and field. There was some great competition especially in the high jump and sprints! Congratulations to Angus who represented our Zone in the Centrals in high jump! Our relay teams were very competitive as well!!

Holy Faith Sisters visit: In November, Sister Deidre Nelson and Sister Cora Grennan visited the school. They belong to the Holy Faith Sisters who founded our school. The oldest student, Michael and the youngest, Sophie presented the Sisters with flowers.

Gala: On November our school held our biennial Gala. Room 4 enthusiastically set about raising money to support the PTA. We grew courgette plants which were very popular! We also sold Lucky Dips and organised the Fizzy Fishing. It was a super night and the school will benefit from the financial success! One fun item in the auction was Principal for the Day. Eva, a Yr 6 student encouraged her parents to bid for it! Eva was a great principal - she hosted important visitors at morning tea and held assembly in the afternoon.

Nativity Plays: To help the younger students and the residents of Merivale Metlife (our neighbouring rest home) we presented a celebration of our talents along with the Christmas play with carols. Thank you to Genevieve who played Jesus!

We wish our school leavers good luck as they leave our school. We know they will take many happy memories with them. Merry Christmas to all our families and friends. See you in 2010.
