Heading

St Albans Catholic School provides learning programmes which meet the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum Framework, and integrated within this curriculum is a Catholic perspective to the extent authorised by Section 31 of the private School Integration Act.

The school delivers the Religious Education programme commissioned and approved by the Catholic Bishops' Conference. We believe a significant influence on the children derives from the moment-to-moment living of Gospel Values in the home, classroom and playground.

Curriculum areas are:

Religious Education English
Technology Mathematics
Social Studies Science
The Arts Health and Physical Education

Special Character

The school community participates enthusiastically in all Church celebrations including school and class masses and liturgies. The Special Character of our school is further enhanced by Father Rick Loughnan's presence in our classrooms and playground. Both students and teachers enjoy and appreciate his visits.

Children are encouraged to participate fully in the sacramental programme which is led by the parish and supported by the school.

Information Technology

A computer and printer with Internet access is available in each classroom and the library. The library has a suite of 8 computers (also Internet-connected) for use by the whole school.

Swimming

Each year children travel to a local heated pool for 10 swimming lessons with trained instructors. Parents contribute to the cost of tuition and transport.

Music

Senior students participate in the Primary Schools Music Festival on a biennial basis. Other aspects of music (part of Arts Curriculum) are covered within individual classrooms and during interchange sessions.

Whole school musical productions have been produced on a biennial basis and are very much looked forward to by the students!

Individual Needs

Children's remedial and extension needs are catered for where possible within individual classrooms. Requirements above this may be provided for at the discretion of the Board of Trustees and the Special Needs Committee.

Sports

The school enters teams in netball and basketball competitions.

Children participate in all North Zone Primary School and Catholic School Sports competitions.

Local clubs cater for individual sporting and cultural interests and details may be available via the school office.

Education Outside the Classroom

The senior class has the opportunity to attend two outdoor education camps.
