Our School and Community

Our school was established in 1952 and its purpose, both then and now, remains the same - to nurture and help our young people to learn, love and live the faith.

Our community comprises of our school families and staff, our parish priest, Father Rick Loughnan, and the parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.

As this rightly suggests, our school and parish are in partnership offering both pastoral care and support to our greatest treasure "our people".

The approved maximum school roll is 110, four of whom may be non-preference. Our decile rating is 9.

The school is located a stone's throw from Rugby Park, St Albans, on a back, tree-lined section. It can be accessed from its main entrance at 49 Rutland Street, from beside the Rutland Street shops, or from beside the parish church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 58 Somme St.

The school comprises four classrooms, resource areas and toilets all housed in a L-shaped building. We are particularly proud of our newly renovated library learning centre and administration area. Our grounds contain a new adventure playground, a grassed area and a netball / basketball court.

Catholic Character

Education in faith is essentially a partnership
between parents, school and parish.

The Family/Whanau

"Parents are the first educators of the child in the ways of the faith. May they also be the best teachers, bearing witness to the Faith by what they say and do . . ."

(Baptismal Rite)

"The faith and Gospel values that are first learnt at home are reinforced at school and in the parish. The family-whanau needs to nurture the development of faith and spirituality within their children as they grow."

(Religious Education Curriculum Statement)

The School

"The school community has the dual role of

  • creating an environment that proclaims what it teaches by providing pastoral care and fostering mutually respectful relationships, and by providing opportunities for prayer, sacramental celebrations and rituals
  • teaching the Religious Education programme in a way that promotes children's learning."
(Religious Education Curriculum Statement)

The Parish

"The parish welcomes the children as they join others to participate in celebration, service, faith sharing, liturgy, and social activities. Parishioners are witnesses of living faith for children."
